Strategic PDUs refer to different skills that help to enhance better business outcomes. These are the processes; tools & techniques that contribute to various larger organizational strategies.

The following are some examples of strategic business management that are listed in the PMI Talent Triangle®.

• Customer Relationship and Satisfaction
• Market and Industry Analysis
• Regulatory Compliance
• Operational Functions (Finance, Marketing, etc.)
• Strategic Planning, Analysis, and Alignment

These are important skills for project managers because they help you align your project to the overall business goals, and to be able to talk about it in ways that relate to your organization as a whole. Possessing knowledge of strategic management skills helps boost both project results and the team's working environment. As a PMP® credential holder, a minimum of 8 Strategic and Business Management PDUs are needed.

Overall, you need a minimum of 35/60 PDUs in the Education category. Once you have got 8 in each domain, Strategic and Business Management PDUs included, you will have 24 in total. Once this is completed, you can make up the remaining 11 from any Talent Triangle side. Strategic PDUs could be earned both by being mentored by a leader in your business on general management techniques, or spending part of your time attending courses and training.
