What’s New In The 2019 PMP® Exam Content? (Part 1)

As the profession is evolving, PMP® exam changes every 3-5 years based on the research conducted by PMI® working jointly with leading experts around the world. In this article, we will cover when the PMP® exam is changing, what PMP® exam changes will bring to the exam content and what you should do to be prepared for the PMP® exam changes and more.

COUNTDOWN TO THE LAST DAY FOR THE CURRENT EXAM CONTENT…

By 16th of December 2019, participants for the PMP® certification exam will sit for the new PMP® exam content outline. That means the last exam day for the current exam content is the 15th of December 2019. It is advisable to enroll in a PMP® training course now and earn your certification before the PMP® exam changes.

Though the aforementioned dates might be postponed concerning the history of changes in PMI®, we never know if the last day for the current version of the PMP® exam will put off. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you plan for your exam day taking these dates into consideration if you wish to get the PMP® certification before the PMP exam changes.

WHAT’S THE CURRENT PMP® EXAM CONTENT?

The latest PMP® exam changes occurred in 2015 as the result of their findings from their research conducted in the same year. Since then, the PMP® exam is based on five domains in alignment with the stages of a project lifecycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling. The following figure describes the current PMP® exam content and the percentage that each domain accounts for in the PMP® exam.

On each domain, there are several tasks to assess the practitioner’s competence, and determine the frequency of each of the knowledge, tasks, and skills required to perform as a project manager. 

As it is shown in the aforementioned outline, the current PMP® exam content focuses on five domains as the stages of the project life cycle to assess the candidate’s knowledge and experience based on these tasks, knowledge and skills for each domain.
