A team member has been quite vocal about his reluctance to work on this project. He is upset that he was not selected to work on a larger, more prestigious project in the organization, and tells anyone who will listen that he is overqualified for the work required on this project. The project manager is doing all he can to influence this team member’s attitude and behavior. He has used emotional intelligence, conflict management techniques, and leadership skills, and has determined that using his formal power as a project manager is most effective with this challenging team member. The other team members have begun expressing frustration with this individual, as he seems to be spending more time complaining than working on his assigned activities. This has required the project manager to spend time smoothing the situation with the other team members. Eventually, the project manager determines that the costs of keeping the team member on the project is higher than the benefits that team member is contributing. The project manager begins the process of replacing the team member. Which process involves the project manger’s actions?
